Smriti Daniel

In over a decade as a feature writer, Smriti Daniel has followed her diverse interests across a number of subjects ranging from the arts to science and health reportage. Her longform pieces have explored the intersections of culture, politics, development and history. Smriti was a Falling Walls Science Journalism Fellow (2016), a Gabriel Garcia Márquez Cultural Journalism Fellow (2017) and a two-time winner of the Feature Writer of the Year Award from the Editors Guild of Sri Lanka. She has seen her work featured in Al Jazeera, The Guardian, Thomson-Reuters, Motherboard, The Caravan, The Atlantic's CityLab, and The Sunday Times among many other publications.
As a communications consultant she has worked with the United Nations Development Programme, Save the Children, The World Bank and the United Nations Population Fund among others. Her published works include 30: Looking back on 30 years of The Mercedes-Benz Club in Sri Lanka, Wings: The Sunera Foundation Story, Perspectives: Reflecting on five decades of sexual and reproductive health and rights in Sri Lanka for the UNFPA. She also produced and hosted the podcast series Witnesses to History
A former digital producer at the ABC, she is now Digital Manager at CSIRO, Australia's national science agency.
