Celebrating 15 years of ActNow Theatre

ActNow Theatre is officially turning 15 this year!

Yep, you read that right. As members of our community you might know that ActNow Theatre was actually founded way back 2007 by Edwin Kemp Attrill, but, what you probably don’t know is that on 2 February 2009 we made it official.

We started as a small ensemble that took a guerrilla approach presenting unscheduled agitprop theatre in public spaces but in 2009, we formalised the company through incorporation and that’s when ActNow  gained fresh momentum.

We broadened our vision and started to create works for the stage; collaborating with organisations both within and outside of the arts. We started presenting more plays by established and emerging writers and devising the interactive, issue-based productions which we have become known for.

It’s been a pleasure sharing this incredible journey with all of you so far. We hope you’ll stay on this wild ride with us for the next 15 years. We can’t wait to see what they will bring!

If you’d like to help support us to keep doing our excellent work (if we say so ourselves), please support us with a little donation.

Feeling nostalgic and want to reminisce some more? We’ve got a handy timeline of all the work ActNow has done since 2007.

Since its inception in 2007, ActNow Theatre has been run, led, by and engaged with queer artists from all walks of life. We have queer community members represented across all our programs, and continue to advocate for and consult on queerness in the theatre industry — locally and across the world.
