Tackling Racism for Workplaces

As discussion about racism in Australia, and the need to address it, have become more apparent, more companies and organisations are beginning to recognise their responsibility to create cultural change in their workplaces.

Tackling Racism for Workplaces is designed to educate staff on anti-racism strategies. This interactive performance explores interpersonal racism while delving deep into workplace dynamics and the impact of institutional racism.

The program provides participants with the terminology and tools to understand the ripple effects of behaviours that in isolation, seem harmless. It uses forum theatre techniques to invite the audience to support characters as they deal with the problems of racism and allows them to collectively find solutions that are relevant in their workplace.

Today, I think I recognise the different ways that racism can present itself. It’s not only the way we act, but also our internal monologue around racism and what we’re thinking in those moments… There’s a lot of work to be done there.

I’ve been working in corrections for over 20 years and I’ve been to countless cultural competency trainings. This is the best one I’ve ever been to.

I’ve learned that most of us have some unconscious bias that we need to unpack and dismantle, on both a personal level, right up to a structural level.
